Using open source software available here, these categories can be automatically mapped to:

• Historical data concerning  crime Oakland since 2007
• OPD’s current FTP crime reporting site

In addition, these categories have been shown to be both more inclusive and more refined than other alternatives, for example CrimeMapping.com.

Note: This proposal should be considered a temporary proxy for one being developed by OPD as part of the data.oaklandnet.com facility.  This will allow direct relation to the FBI’s older Uniform Crime Report (UCR) and modern National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) data collection activities.
